Following severe flooding caused by avalanches, rockfalls, and landslides along the Nepal–China border, at least 95 people have been killed and 341 others remain missing.
Reuters reported on Wednesday that a massive volume of rocks and mud fell into the “Langtang Khola” River, triggering devastating floods that swept toward Nepal.
Verified videos show dozens of people in the border area being caught and swept away by a powerful surge of water, mud, and rocks. Authorities have expressed concern that the death toll could rise further and that the disaster may have caused extensive financial damage.
Nepal Police said rescue teams have so far recovered the bodies of 95 people, while 65 injured people are receiving treatment at local health facilities and in the capital, Kathmandu.
According to Nepal’s Ministry of Tourism, at least 341 foreign tourists and mountaineers are also missing in the affected area. Those reported missing include more than 100 Indian nationals, three U.S. citizens, and 12 British nationals.
Authorities said dozens of local residents also remain unaccounted for, while search-and-rescue operations are continuing.
