Thailand’s police have announced that a 24-year-old football player died after being struck by lightning during a football match.
According to police, Sopuwan Awai was seriously injured on Tuesday after lightning struck the ground at the Santiphap Stadium in southern Thailand.
Local officials said that, despite efforts by emergency medical teams to save the player’s life, he died from the severity of his injuries.
Thai police also stated that 12 other players were injured in the incident and were taken to hospital for treatment.
