The Taliban’s general directorate of physical education and Sports has announced the start of the 10th National Powerlifting selection championships in Kabul.
According to the directorate, 140 athletes from 13 provinces are taking part in the competition, which is being held at the Taliban sports authority’s 500-seat sports gymnasium.
The athletes are competing in the youth, junior, senior, and veteran categories, across various weight classes ranging from 53 to 120 kilograms.
At the conclusion of the competition, 95 athletes will be selected for the national powerlifting team, while an additional 14 athletes will be selected to participate in international competitions.
The Taliban’s sports authority said the purpose of the event is to identify top athletes for the national team and international competitions.
The four-day national selection competition is scheduled to continue over the coming days.
