Local sources in Kandahar say that a man in the province killed his young son with an iron object following a family dispute. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, the first of Sunbula, in Kandahar city.
A source who requested anonymity said the incident occurred near Shahr-e-Naw, in the 13th security district of Kandahar city, along Hospital Road. No further details have so far been released by officials.
According to the source, a verbal argument initially broke out between the father and son, after which the father allegedly assaulted his 25-year-old son, identified as Muslim, with an iron object. The young man reportedly died from the severity of his injuries.
Sources added that the father works in the tire-repair business and said that economic difficulties were believed to be the main cause of the dispute between him and his son. However, official sources have not released further details regarding the motive for the incident or the status of the investigation.
Psychological pressure resulting from unemployment and economic hardship is considered among the factors that can contribute to increased family tensions in Afghanistan. However, determining the exact cause of this incident requires further investigation and confirmation by the relevant authorities.
