Local sources in Kabul say that an officer of the Taliban Ministry of Defense, along with a young man, was killed in a shooting by unidentified armed individuals.
According to the sources, the officer was named Noorullah and served in the Taliban’s Mansoori Corps. The other victim, identified as Abdul Khaliq Safi, was a resident of Kabul city.
Based on information from the sources, the incident took place yesterday, on 26 May, in the Arzan Qeemat area of Kabul’s 12th security district.
So far, the identity of the attackers and the motive behind the killing remain unknown. The Taliban have also not yet commented on the incident.
Informed sources say that crime rates in Kabul have increased in recent weeks. According to these sources, armed incidents and targeted killings have become more frequent in different parts of the city.
Three days earlier, four people, including a woman, were killed in a shooting by armed men at Sarai Shahzada in Kabul.
The Taliban have repeatedly claimed that nationwide security has been ensured in Afghanistan, but the continuation of security incidents and armed attacks in some areas has increased public concern.
