Summary

Bloomberg has reported that US officials are preparing a plan to deport some Afghan asylum seekers to Pakistan, a move that could affect the fate of several Afghans detained in the United States.

According to the report, published on Monday, 4 Aqrab, some detained Afghans have been informed that they may be sent to Pakistan or Afghanistan in the near future. The transfers are expected to begin in the coming weeks. However, US officials have not yet formally announced the plan.

Bloomberg’s report adds that those facing deportation include relatives of some Afghans who worked with the US military before the Taliban returned to power.

Meanwhile, AfghanEvac, an organization that helps facilitate the relocation of Afghans to the United States, has announced that it has received at least 30 reports since 22 Mizan concerning the possible transfer of detained Afghans. According to the organization, the reports involve 15 detention facilities across 11 US states.

AfghanEvac has urged the US government to clearly identify the potential destinations for the deportations and to give those affected an opportunity to raise their concerns about the risks they could face if returned to Afghanistan before any transfers take place.

The organization emphasized that security concerns and the potential risks facing these individuals upon returning to Afghanistan must be taken into account before decisions are made about their future.
