Taliban minister of refugees and repatriation, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, has once again called for positive and constructive relations with the international community based on Islamic Sharia law.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Aqrab 3 (October 25), the Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said that Mawlawi Abdul Kabir, during a meeting with the Taliban-appointed governors of Kabul and Balkh provinces in Balkh, urged local officials to draw on the experiences of the Taliban’s previous period in power.
He claimed that the Taliban administration has the capacity to implement major economic projects using its own financial resources and can continue to pursue such initiatives.
These remarks come nearly five years after the Taliban returned to power. However, with the exception of Russia, no other country has formally recognized the group. Central Asian countries, along with several other nations that maintain close relations with Russia, have also refrained from recognizing the Taliban government.
The international community has repeatedly urged the Taliban to respect human rights, establish an inclusive government, and fulfil their international commitments. Meanwhile, security challenges along the borders and political tensions between Afghanistan and some neighbouring countries have emerged in recent years.
Mohammad Yousuf Wafa, the Taliban-appointed governor of Balkh, also described the security situation in northern Afghanistan as completely secure during the meeting. He stated that the concerns of neighbouring countries had been taken into account and that trade relations with them were in a favourable state.
Earlier, Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban’s Minister for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, said that the group would not abandon the implementation of Sharia law because of negative publicity. He rejected international criticism of the restrictions imposed by the Taliban on Afghan women, claiming that human rights in Afghanistan are upheld in accordance with Islamic principles.
