Sources say the Taliban’s Ministry of Justice has ordered Jafar Mahdavi, a former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives, to vacate his home in Kabul’s District 6 as soon as possible. According to the sources, the ministry has declared the property to be an “Emirate-owned asset” and has demanded that it be handed over.
According to the sources, after receiving the order, Jafar Mahdavi met with a number of prominent elders and senior figures from the Hazara and Shia communities, including Ustad Akbari, in an effort to prevent its enforcement. It is reported that he asked them to mediate in the matter and protest the decision.
The reports come just months after the Taliban confiscated the home of Fawzia Koofi, another former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives. Taliban authorities have not yet issued an official statement explaining the details of the case involving Jafar Mahdavi’s home or the reasons behind the decision.
