Summary

Local sources say the Taliban have dismissed nearly 30 prosecutors who had been working at the Badakhshan Prosecutor’s Office since the previous government. The dismissals reportedly followed the removal of Shamsuddin Shariati as head of the so-called Directorate for the Follow-up and Monitoring of Decrees and Orders.

According to information received by TOOS News, the dismissed prosecutors were working in the provincial capital, Faizabad, as well as in offices serving various districts of Badakhshan. Some of them said they had continued working in their previous positions for five years but have now been removed from their posts, with new personnel expected to replace them.

One of the dismissed prosecutors said he had been out of work for more than two weeks. According to him, the Taliban have carried out widespread dismissals of prosecutors who served under the former Islamic Republic and replaced them with new personnel.

Sources added that the process of appointing new staff has not yet been completed. Nevertheless, some individuals have already started working at the directorate without completing the necessary administrative and legal procedures.

Among those dismissed are Waheedullah, a member of the central Directorate for the Follow-up of Decrees; Mohammad Arif, the official responsible for the department in Shahada district; Ahmad Farhad, from the central directorate; Javid, the official in charge of the department in Zebak district; and Mawlawi Mahboob, an employee of the department in Kuran wa Munjan district.

Following the Taliban’s return to power, their supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhundzada, changed the name of Afghanistan’s Attorney General’s Office to the General Directorate for the Follow-up and Monitoring of Decrees and Orders. Shamsuddin Shariati, a Badakhshan-born Taliban member, headed the directorate for nearly five years. However, in the latest administrative reshuffle, he was removed from the position and appointed as the Taliban’s governor in Uruzgan province.

The Taliban have not yet issued an official statement regarding the dismissal of the prosecutors or the appointment of new personnel in Badakhshan.
