Local sources in Herat say that unidentified armed individuals attacked the “Bahar” Market in the Darb-e Malek area of the city during the night. In the incident, the market’s security guard was killed, his son was injured, and property from at least six shops was stolen.
According to sources, the attackers entered the market wearing civilian clothes and initially identified themselves as intelligence officers in order to gain access without raising suspicion.
The sources add that after entering the market, the armed men injured the guard and tied him to an iron pole with a chain. The guard later died due to severe blood loss and the lack of timely medical assistance.
Based on information from the sources, the attackers collected goods and valuables from six shops before leaving the area. The guard’s son, who was injured during the incident, was transferred to a medical facility for treatment.
The incident has raised concerns over increasing armed robberies and insecurity in Herat. The identities of the attackers have not yet been officially disclosed, and it remains unclear whether they were affiliated with any specific group or criminal network.
In recent months, reports of armed robberies and similar crimes have emerged from various parts of Afghanistan. However, in many of these cases, the identities of the perpetrators have not been officially established, and no information has been released regarding their arrest.
