Local sources in Bamyan province say that the Baran Institute of Health Sciences has once again been shut down by the Taliban intelligence forces, and a number of the institute’s officials and teachers have been detained.
According to the sources, Taliban intelligence forces entered the private educational institute on Monday and arrested several senior officials, including Nawid Mazfari, one of the founders of the institute; Abdulhaq Shafaq, the administrative director; and Mohammad Hassan Akbari, the academic director.
It has also been reported that seven teachers and Dr. Ali Najafi, the head of the institute, were detained as well, but were released hours later on bail.
Based on the published information, after the institute’s gates were sealed, staff members were ordered to guarantee that Nawid Mazfari would report himself to Directorate 08 of the intelligence agency. Sources say he was arrested on Wednesday morning.
So far, no precise information has been released regarding the condition or fate of the other detainees. This incident comes amid growing concerns over restrictions on educational institutions and the future of young people’s education in Afghanistan.
