Summary

Hamidullah Mohib, Afghanistan’s former national security adviser, has condemned the killing of Hasib Panjshiri, a commander of the National Resistance Front, saying that political ideas and public grievances cannot be silenced through force and gunfire.

In a post on X on Saturday, 22 August, Mohib expressed his sorrow over Panjshiri’s death. He said that although he had no personal acquaintance with Panjshiri, he was killed because of his political opposition.

According to Mohib, the elimination of political opponents has a long history in Afghanistan but has never brought stability to the country. He added that public grievances among Afghans run far deeper than what armed opposition groups can represent.

Referring to the Taliban administration, Mohib said that claiming to have established security in Afghanistan while simultaneously eliminating and killing political opponents is contradictory.

He also said that if reports of disrespect toward Hasib Panjshiri’s body are accurate, the act would constitute not only an insult to the deceased but also an affront to his family and society, further deepening Afghanistan’s existing social divisions.

Mohib stressed that political differences should be resolved through dialogue, understanding, and respect for human life rather than through force and elimination. He blamed the ongoing violence and conflict in Afghanistan on those who reject political pluralism and dialogue and instead call on people to submit to unconditional obedience rather than participate in political life.
