Local sources report that on Tuesday evening, around 30 July 2026, a number of Afghan citizens who were attempting to cross the Iran border illegally came under fire from unidentified armed individuals in the border area of “Bonyad” in Khashan district of Herat province.
According to initial information, at least 9 people were killed and 6 others were injured in the incident. Reports indicate that the condition of some of the injured is critical, and the death toll may rise.
So far, the identities of the perpetrators and the motive for the attack remain unclear. Neither the caretaker government of Afghanistan nor officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran have yet commented on the incident.
