Former Foreign Minister of Afghanistan’s previous republican government, Mohammad Hanif Atmar, has said on the occasion of the month of Muharram and the day of Ashura that national unity, collective cooperation, and a culture of dialogue are fundamentally important for Afghanistan’s stability and development.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Atmar stated that the historical event of Ashura embodies enduring values in Islamic history, including faith, piety, the pursuit of justice, patience, and resilience, and it teaches Muslims lessons in responsibility and unity.
He described the sacrifices of Imam Hussein and his companions as an example of dignity, freedom, selflessness, and loyalty to human and Islamic values, emphasizing that the message of Ashura is an inspiration for the preservation of truth, justice, and human dignity.
According to the former foreign minister, the participation of all citizens of the country, respect for human rights and dignity, and joint efforts toward peace and national consensus are of vital importance for Afghanistan’s future.
Atmar added that a stable future for Afghanistan depends on national cohesion and collective cooperation, and that the message of Ashura calls on Muslims to adopt dialogue, justice, and mutual understanding instead of violence.
He concluded by expressing hope that Afghanistan will move toward lasting stability and a brighter future through unity, peace, and peaceful coexistence.
