China’s mission to the United Nations has urged the Taliban to take decisive action against terrorist groups and prevent Afghanistan from once again becoming a safe haven for terrorism.

San Li, China’s Chargé d’Affaires to the United Nations, said on Thursday, August 6, during a UN Security Council meeting that the international community should help reduce the conditions that allow terrorism to spread by supporting Afghanistan’s economy and improving the livelihoods of its people.

He also expressed support for cooperation between Afghanistan, Central Asian countries, and regional organizations in addressing cross-border terrorist threats.

Meanwhile, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the group would not allow Afghan territory to be used against any country.

The remarks come amid continued concerns over the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and the use of Afghan soil for cross-border threats.
