A young man lost his life due to drowning in Farhār district of Takhar Province. Local sources say his body was recovered from the water after several hours of search and was handed over to his family.
According to sources, the incident occurred on Friday, 29 Jawza, in the Farhār River. The victim’s identity has not yet been officially confirmed, but local sources have verified that he died as a result of drowning.
Witnesses of the incident say the search operation to locate the body lasted several hours, and in the end, an elderly man managed to retrieve it from the water.
This incident comes as, with the onset of the hot season, a large number of citizens visit rivers, streams, and water reservoirs across the country for recreation and swimming. However, the lack of standard and safe swimming areas, the absence of warning signs, and the shortage of rescue facilities and lifeguard personnel each year lead to fatal accidents in Afghanistan’s waterways.
In the past week as well, several drowning incidents have been reported in different provinces of the country. According to available information, two people died in Ghazni Province, one in Parwan Province, and three in Panjshir Province as a result of drowning.
Citizens and social activists have repeatedly called on relevant authorities to establish safe swimming areas, deploy lifeguard personnel, and launch public awareness programs in order to reduce and prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
