Summary

Local sources in Jowzjan province say that a deadly traffic accident that occurred on Tuesday evening on the Jowzjan–Sar-e Pol highway, leaving four people dead and four others injured, was caused by the “reckless speeding and negligence” of a vehicle carrying the son of the Taliban governor.

According to the sources, the incident happened when a Toyota Hilux carrying the governor’s son collided with a Toyota Vitz. As a result of the collision, four occupants of the Vitz were killed at the scene, while four others sustained injuries.

The sources added that the Taliban governor’s son was also injured in the accident. In addition, a man identified as “Qari Abu Bakr,” who was traveling with him, lost his life in the crash.

Despite these claims from local sources, the Taliban police command in Jowzjan has so far only confirmed the occurrence of the accident and the number of casualties. It has not provided any details regarding the identities of those traveling in the Hilux or the alleged involvement of the governor’s son in the incident.

Meanwhile, Afghan domestic media outlets have not yet published further details about the circumstances of the accident or the allegations concerning the vehicle carrying the Taliban governor’s son.

Traffic accidents in Afghanistan claim hundreds of lives every year. Experts cite excessive speed, driver negligence, and weak enforcement of traffic regulations as some of the main factors contributing to the high number of such incidents.
