Following a hand grenade explosion inside a school in Mahdia Township, located in Kabul’s western Dasht-e-Barchi area, at least 52 people have been injured, most of them children.
Taliban authorities said the explosion occurred at around 5:00 p.m. today inside a school in Mahdia Township, which falls under Kabul’s 18th Security District. Authorities have not yet released an official and precise casualty figure.
According to local sources, those injured in the incident were transported to several hospitals for treatment. Twenty-four injured people were taken to Alami Hospital, 17 to Aman Zaman Hospital, three to Qahraman-e Karbala Hospital, and four others to Esteqlal Hospital. Some additional injured individuals were also taken to Mohammad Ali Jinnah Hospital and Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital.
No comprehensive information has yet been released regarding the circumstances or cause of the explosion. Taliban authorities said the incident was caused by the detonation of a hand grenade, but provided no further details about how the grenade was placed or who was responsible for the incident.
Reports regarding casualties among the school’s students remain inconsistent, and no official figure for the number of injured has yet been announced.
