Fox News reported, citing counterterrorism expert Omar Mohammed, that Mojtaba Khamenei has reportedly been hiding in a secure location for nearly three months, a situation he said closely resembles the final years of Osama bin Laden.
In an interview with Fox News, the expert stated that the United States has forced the leadership of the Islamic Republic into a level of operational concealment similar to the conditions under which bin Laden lived for nearly 10 years in the city of Abbottabad.
He explained that during his stay in Abbottabad, bin Laden had no telecommunications access and communicated only manually through two trusted couriers.
According to Omar Mohammed, the Islamic Republic has learned from the Abbottabad experience that the safest hideout is not necessarily in remote mountainous areas, but can instead be a heavily guarded and walled compound inside a military city.
The counterterrorism expert added that during his years in hiding, bin Laden was located only about one kilometer from Pakistan’s most important military academy and remained concealed behind high walls. He believes that similar locations in Iran could include fortified underground facilities near centers affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
