The Afghanistan freedom front has claimed that its forces repelled newly deployed Taliban troops in Zibak district of Badakhshan province following several hours of heavy clashes.
The front said on Friday that the fighting began on August 27 and continued until this morning. According to the group, the Taliban had deployed fresh forces from Kabul to Zibak amid changes to the local administration in Badakhshan.
The Freedom Front claimed that its forces attacked Taliban positions using both light and heavy weapons, inflicting heavy casualties and material losses on the group.
According to the front, the bodies of some Taliban fighters who were killed or wounded were transferred to health centers in Zibak and Baharak, as well as to the hospital in Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan province.
The Taliban have not yet issued an official response regarding the clashes, possible casualties among their forces, or the Freedom Front’s claims. Meanwhile, there has been no independent verification of the reported casualties or the claims made by either side regarding the fighting in Zibak. There have previously been reports of heavy clashes between the Freedom Front and the Taliban in the district.
