Summary

The daughter of Afghanistan’s former president, Hela Najibullah, has recently compared the country’s past and present political situations and criticized the positions of a number of prominent political and former mujahideen figures.

She stated that Afghanistan once possessed significant military and air force capabilities. According to her, during the reign of King Amanullah Khan, Russian pilots supported the Afghan Air Force, and during the government of Dr. Najibullah, an Afghan even traveled to space. However, both governments eventually collapsed due to internal opposition and uprisings backed by foreign support.

Regarding the Taliban’s current policies, Hela Najibullah said that those who once fought against the Soviet Union are now entering into political and military agreements with the same country. She specifically referred to Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, the Taliban’s Minister of Defense, and noted that political positions have changed over time.

She also criticized Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, saying that he had previously opposed elections and peace efforts but now supports voting and democracy.

In her view, Afghanistan’s current situation is the result of long-standing political contradictions. She described a country where people are facing economic hardships, women are suffering from restrictions, many intellectuals have been forced to leave the country, and political activities have been weakened.

Hela Najibullah also stated that Afghanistan has once again become an arena for regional and international intelligence rivalries.
