The Taliban governor’s office in Herat has announced that the province’s first shipment of mineral stone has been exported to the United States.
In a statement released today (Wednesday, July 29), the governor’s media office said the shipment was exported by a private company.
The shipment, consisting of black decorative stone extracted from the Zinda Jan mine in Herat, is valued at $100,000. The black marble mine, primarily used for decorative purposes, is located in the Anjirak area of Zinda Jan district, Herat province.
Over the past two years, exports of white marble and Malistan travertine from Ghazni province to Australia have also commenced.
In 2014, the former Afghan Republic government announced that 35 marble deposits featuring 45 different color varieties had been identified across various parts of the country. The government estimated that these deposits contain more than 9 billion metric tons of marble, with an estimated total value exceeding $200 billion.
