Summary

The head of the Breshna Electricity Company in Faryab Province has announced that the 220-kilovolt power transmission line carrying imported electricity from Turkmenistan has experienced a technical fault, resulting in a power outage in the provinces of Faryab and Jowzjan.

The administration, which operates under Taliban control, stated on Saturday, May 30, that the outage was caused by a “technical problem” in the transmission line. However, no further details were provided regarding the nature of the fault.

Breshna also did not disclose when the line is expected to be repaired or when imported electricity will be restored, and it remains unclear how long the repair process will take.

The outage comes as parts of northern Afghanistan rely heavily on electricity imported from Turkmenistan, and any disruption to transmission lines can significantly affect power supply to consumers.

Previously, on March 10, electricity imported from Turkmenistan to Herat Province was cut off after two power pylons were damaged in the Band-e Baqarchar area, disrupting the 220-kilovolt transmission line.

So far, Breshna officials have not provided information about the extent of the damage caused by the technical fault or the exact timeline for restoring power.
