The Taliban-run ministry of public works has announced that, on the orders of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada, the ministry’s Railway Deputy Directorate has been separated from the Ministry of Public Works and transformed into an independent authority.
According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Public Works, Abdul Karim Fateh, who previously served as the ministry’s technical deputy, has been appointed as the head of the newly established Railway Authority.
The Taliban have not yet released further details regarding the authority’s specific responsibilities, organizational structure, or operational framework.
The development of railway infrastructure is considered important for Afghanistan’s regional connectivity, trade, and transit. The Taliban are also pursuing various railway projects aimed at connecting Afghanistan with Central and South Asia through the rail network.
