Summary

The Governorate of South Khorasan announced that imports from Afghanistan at the Mahirud border have increased by 846 percent. Mohammadreza Hashemi stated that since the beginning of the war, trade exchanges at this border have grown, making it one of the country’s most active commercial crossings.

On Tuesday, Mr. Hashemi, during a joint meeting with Taliban officials in Farah province, said that the Mahirud border has become one of the most important trade gateways between the two countries.

Mohammadreza Hashemi added that the Mahirud–Farah road, after 17 years of delay, has made significant progress over the past year. This road connects Iran’s South Khorasan border to Farah province and is considered important for trade between Iran, Afghanistan, and Central Asia.

He also mentioned that with extended working hours, daily traffic on the Mahirud–Farah route has reached over a thousand trucks. The Iranian official also called for a joint border market, the establishment of an Afghan customs office, and the strengthening of joint chambers.

The Governor of South Khorasan said that an online appointment system has also been activated to eliminate long delays on this route.

According to him, imports grew by 165 percent in 1404 (Persian calendar year), and since the beginning of the war, the dollar value of imports from Afghanistan via the Mahirud border has increased by 441 percent.
