Abul Fazl Shekarchi, spokesperson for Iran’s Armed Forces, accused several Persian-language media outlets based outside the country of cooperating with U.S. and Israeli intelligence agencies, saying that Tehran considers these outlets to be among its military targets.
Speaking to Radio Farda on Wednesday, 5 Sonbola, Shekarchi named Radio Farda, BBC Persian, and Iran International, alleging that the outlets cooperate with Israel’s Mossad and the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
He said the Islamic Republic does not consider these outlets to be independent news organizations and claimed that, because of their activities, they are regarded as military targets by Tehran.
The remarks come as Iranian authorities have repeatedly accused Persian-language media outlets based abroad of conducting propaganda against the Islamic Republic and supporting U.S. and Israeli policies in recent years.
In his latest comments, Shekarchi provided no further details about what he meant by “military targets” or the basis for his allegations. The outlets named in his remarks have not, in the context of this report, issued a response to his latest statements.
