The Afghanistan Journalists Center has condemned the closure of the Lapis media office, affiliated with MOBY Group, in Kabul by the Taliban’s intelligence agency and called for the office to be reopened.
In a statement, the Afghanistan Journalists Center said that Taliban intelligence forces raided the Lapis office in the Wazir Akbar Khan area of Kabul on Wednesday, shut down the office, and ordered employees to return to their homes.
According to the center, intelligence forces also confiscated some of the office’s equipment. A source said that the Lapis case would be referred to court following further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Taliban-affiliated media outlet Hindukush Voice has claimed that Lapis was shut down for broadcasting “obscene and immoral content.” The outlet alleges that Lapis aired artists’ songs, concerts, and visual materials associated with Western ideas and lifestyles.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center says the closure of Lapis could also affect the operations of other media outlets affiliated with the company.
The center has expressed concern over the growing restrictions on the media in Afghanistan and called on the Taliban to end restrictive measures, reopen the Lapis office, and allow its employees to carry out their media activities without fear of arrest or restrictions.
