The Taliban police spokesperson in Kabul confirmed an armed clash near Sarai Shahzada in central Kabul, an incident in which Ehsanullah, the son of Allah Gul Mujahid, a former member of Afghanistan’s House of Representatives, was killed.
Khalid Zadran, spokesperson for the Kabul Police Command, told the media that the clash occurred today, Sunday, May 24, in the Goldsmiths’ Market near Sarai Shahzada. According to him, one of Allah Gul Mujahid’s bodyguards and two other people, including a woman, were also killed in the incident.
Mr. Zadran added that one of the attackers was arrested while wounded. Police forces have also detained one of Allah Gul Mujahid’s family members on suspicion of involvement in the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
The spokesperson for the Kabul Police Command said that preliminary findings indicate the incident stemmed from a personal dispute. However, investigations are continuing to clarify all aspects of the event.
Sarai Shahzada in Kabul is located near several important government buildings and is considered one of the busiest areas of the capital. During the Eid holidays, traffic and the presence of citizens in the streets and markets around the area increase.
