The Taliban spokesperson, Zabihullah Mujahid, in a statement issued on the occasion of the 7th and 8th of Sawr, discussed the contemporary history of Afghanistan and the continuation of the current system. He recalled the 7th of Sawr, 1357 (1978), which, according to him, was the day when the country fell under the influence of communism, and with it, the beginning of foreign interventions and prolonged wars.
The statement mentions that the 8th of Sawr, 1371 (1992), is regarded as the result of the Mujahideen’s struggles and their day of victory. However, it also notes that the subsequent internal conflicts and civil wars harmed the hopes of the people and challenged political stability.
The Taliban’s position is that their movement was initiated to end this instability and to establish a unified system. The statement urges the people to adopt a common stance to preserve the current situation and avoid the resurgence of conflicts.
These remarks come at a time when Afghanistan’s recent history is still closely tied to two major events—the 7th of Sawr coup and the changes of the 8th of Sawr. Analysts believe that these phases laid the foundation for decades of political instability, the consequences of which are still felt today.
