In Kandahar, Mullah Sherin, the Taliban’s governor for the province, called for increased patrols and security measures during a security meeting with police chiefs from 11 districts, in an effort to further strengthen security.
The Taliban governor’s media office said that the police chiefs of Daman, Upper Maiwand, Lower Maiwand, Zhari, Spin Boldak, Khakrez, Panjwai, Ghorak, Takhta Pul, and Maruf districts attended the meeting.
Mullah Sherin instructed the district police chiefs to increase patrols and security monitoring to maintain control over the security situation and to strengthen coordination with other government institutions.
He emphasized that protecting the lives, property, and dignity of the people is among the key responsibilities of security officials and should be given serious attention.
The Taliban governor’s office also said that the meeting addressed measures to prevent the cultivation, trafficking, and sale of narcotics.
The meeting of Taliban security officials in Kandahar comes amid reports in recent days of attacks against the Taliban in various parts of the province. An opposition group known as the “United Front” has also recently claimed responsibility for several attacks against the Taliban. However, independent sources have not verified the details of these claims.
