The “Sun” has reported that Chindo Uzor, a player for Nigerian football club Katsina United, regained consciousness in a morgue hours after he had been officially pronounced dead and is now receiving treatment to save his life.
Uzor suddenly collapsed during Katsina United’s pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Nigeria, sparking serious concern among fans and members of both teams.
After examining the defender, doctors pronounced him dead. However, hours later, medical staff at the morgue noticed Uzor move his hand, unexpectedly changing the situation.
Uzor was immediately transferred to the intensive care unit of Katsina General Hospital, where he is currently receiving oxygen therapy. Doctors are working to revive him and stabilise his condition.
The development came after Katsina United had earlier announced the player’s death on social media and issued an official condolence statement.
In its initial statement, the club said it was deeply saddened to announce the death of its new player following a medical emergency during the match against Niger Tornadoes, while expressing its condolences to his family and loved ones.
Following the initial announcement, the Nigeria Premier Football League and several clubs across the country also issued messages of condolence.
Uzor joined Katsina United earlier this month and had been preparing for the start of the new football season.
