Sources say that the Taliban intelligence office in Kandahar has arrested Mullah Jan Muhammad Madani, a close advisor to Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada and a member of the Dar al-Ifta, on charges of accepting a bribe.

According to available information, he was arrested about four days ago, apparently after receiving 800,000 Pakistani rupees in exchange for resolving a criminal case.

Informed sources have said that Mullah Jan Muhammad Madani was entrusted with cases related to courts, disputes for reconciliation, or issuing religious opinions. He is reportedly accused of accepting a bribe in a murder case and was subsequently imprisoned.

Madani remains a member of the Taliban’s Dar al-Ifta in Kandahar and had previously played a role in the Taliban negotiation team in Qatar. Sources add that he is considered close to Mullah Hibatullah and has direct ties with the Taliban leader.

It is also reported that Mullah Jan Muhammad Madani ran a religious school in Kandahar city and had many students. According to sources, he provided advice to the Taliban leader on important religious and political matters.
