Summary

A number of residents of Herat have called on Afghan citizens across the country not to remain silent in the face of the Taliban’s arrests and treatment of women and girls in the province, urging them to raise their voices in protest.

In messages sent to media outlets, these individuals appealed to residents of Kabul, Mazar-e-Sharif, and other provinces to respond in solidarity with the people of Herat and not remain indifferent to the situation.

In recent days, the Taliban’s Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has intensified restrictions on women and girls in Herat. According to reports, dozens of women have also been detained.

In response to these measures, a number of Herat residents staged protests; however, the demonstrations were met with a crackdown by Taliban forces.

Eyewitnesses report that the security presence across Herat has increased significantly, with Taliban forces deployed throughout various parts of the city and closely monitoring the movements of residents.

According to local sources, Taliban personnel have also visited several hospitals in an effort to identify and apprehend injured protesters.

In their messages, the protesters emphasized that citizens in other provinces should not remain silent in the face of these developments and must raise their voices in support of the women and people of Herat.
