The Resistance Front, an anti-Taliban opposition group, claims to have launched an attack on a security outpost known as the "Antenna Post" in the Farsi district of Herat province, resulting in the death of one Taliban fighter and the wounding of three others.
According to a statement released by the front, the assault occurred last night around 10:00 PM, with its forces also seizing four firearms from the Taliban.
Local sources confirmed that a night attack and engagement took place in the specified area of Farsi district. However, they noted that while Resistance Front forces attempted to capture the outpost, they were ultimately unsuccessful in overrunning it entirely.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the attack or the reported casualties, and the Resistance Front's claims have not been independently verified.
This comes amid an upsurge in attacks by anti-Taliban armed groups over the past two weeks, particularly in Badakhshan and several other provinces.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid dismissed reports of recent clashes in Badakhshan as "media propaganda," stating that the country was liberated through the sacrifices of "devotees" and that further sacrifices will be made to defend it.
Meanwhile, Ali Ahmad Jalali, Afghanistan's former Minister of Interior, described the recent security developments as a sign of a gradual public backlash against Taliban policies. However, he added that the current scattered attacks by opposition groups do not yet pose a serious threat to Taliban rule.
