Sirajuddin Haqqani: Afghanistan’s Needs Today Go Beyond Security.
A ceremony marking the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s independence was held by the Ministry of Defense, attended by Acting Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani.
Speaking at the event about the country’s current situation and the needs of the Afghan people, Haqqani emphasized that Afghanistan’s needs today extend beyond ensuring security.
He said that alongside security, Afghans are seeking economic development, expanded access to education, job opportunities, and the development of the agricultural and healthcare sectors. He stressed that addressing these areas is essential to improving people’s living conditions.
The acting interior minister also called for Afghanistan to move toward a production-based economy, saying that achieving sustainable economic growth requires serious attention to strengthening the country’s basic and infrastructure sectors.
In another part of his remarks, Haqqani said: “We must accept the legitimate demands of the nation and not impose only our own views and preferences on them.”
He added that respecting the legitimate demands of the people, expanding essential services, and strengthening the country’s economic foundations are among the factors that can pave the way for Afghanistan’s progress and put the country on a path toward self-reliance and development.
