Local sources in Takhar Province report the death of a 30-year-old woman named Zahra. According to her family, she was pregnant with twins and died after being severely beaten by her husband.
According to sources, the incident occurred on the evening of last Sunday in Suq village, located in Fering District of Takhar Province. They say that after Zahra died, her husband allegedly hanged her body and then contacted her family, claiming that she had died by suicide.
Zahra’s family rejects this claim, stating that her body bore clear signs of physical assault. They maintain that her death was the result of domestic violence, not suicide. Family members have called for a transparent and impartial investigation, as well as the prosecution of those responsible for the incident.
According to available information, Zahra’s husband, identified as Haji, met and married her while living in Iran after the collapse of the former Afghan republic. He is said to have recently returned to Afghanistan, where he was living in the same household with his first wife, his children, Zahra, and Zahra’s young daughter.
These allegations come as the relevant authorities have yet to issue any public statement on the case, and no official details regarding the cause of Zahra’s death have been released. Meanwhile, reports of violence against women in Afghanistan continue to emerge, raising ongoing concerns among women’s rights advocates and human rights organizations.
