Summary

Local Taliban officials in Uruzgan Province say they have detained a man who was allegedly attempting to take his own life.

In a statement, the Taliban’s Uruzgan Police Command said that the man, following a verbal dispute with members of his family at his home, intended to commit suicide using a “deadly weapon.”

According to the statement, the man is a resident of the Fourth District of Tarinkot city.

Taliban officials did not provide further details about the man’s current condition or what actions would be taken regarding his case.

Mental health disorders, lack of access to treatment, unemployment, and economic hardship are considered among the main factors contributing to suicide cases in the country.

Since the Taliban regained control of the country and the economic situation has deteriorated, a significant number of suicide cases have been reported.
