The Taliban’s Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Nangarhar province has issued a new directive to the employees of the provincial Mustofiat (finance department), instructing them not to trim their beards after the Eid al-Adha holidays and to keep their hairstyles in accordance with the rules set by the ministry.
The published notice warns that anyone who violates these instructions will face strict action and punishment.
Meanwhile, some sources say that Noorul Hassan Mohsin, the head of Nangarhar’s Mustofiat, has increased pressure on employees to fully collect the assigned revenues. According to the sources, his influence has grown because of his family connections, and for this reason many employees are unable to oppose him.
The sources also add that although the official working hours end at 4 p.m., employees are kept in the offices beyond that time and are not given any compensation for overtime work.
