The Afghanistan Freedom Front claimed on Wednesday that its forces had targeted Kunduz Airport with rockets. No details have so far been released regarding the exact timing of the attack, the extent of the damage, or possible casualties, and Taliban officials have not commented on the incident.
This is the second time in the past week that the Afghanistan Freedom Front has claimed responsibility for an attack on Kunduz Airport. The group previously announced on 31 July that it had targeted Taliban helicopters at the airport.
Earlier, sources had said that a gathering of Taliban forces at Kunduz Airport was targeted in the attack. According to those sources, the forces were scheduled to be transferred by helicopter to Badakhshan province.
Meanwhile, informed sources reported on Wednesday that a several-hour clash took place between Taliban forces and the Afghanistan Freedom Front in Zebak district of Badakhshan province.
Dawood Naji stated that the Taliban had attacked positions of the Afghanistan Freedom Front and that the fighting continued for approximately four hours. He also claimed that the Freedom Front’s forces had inflicted heavy casualties on the Taliban during the clash.
The claims made by the Afghanistan Freedom Front and sources close to the group have not been independently verified, and the Taliban have not issued any response regarding these incidents.
