Freedom Front Reports Missile Attack on Kabul Military Airport

The Freedom Front of Afghanistan announced on Friday, 16 Asad, that its forces carried out a missile attack on Kabul Military Airport on Thursday evening. Prior to the release of the statement, local sources had also told Afghanistan International that they heard at least two loud explosions near Kabul Airport.

The group released a video of the attack and claimed that the operation was carried out at around 8:30 p.m. However, no independent details have so far emerged regarding where the missiles struck or the extent of the damage caused by the attack.

The Freedom Front said the attack on Kabul Airport was part of a series of targeted operations against Taliban military transport and transfer facilities. The group claimed that, following recent clashes in Zebak district of Badakhshan province, the Taliban had transferred a number of their forces to Badakhshan through the airports of Kabul, Kunduz, Kandahar, and Balkh.

The group also claimed that parts of the military facilities at Kabul Airport were targeted in Thursday evening’s missile attack and sustained damage. The Freedom Front further reported that a number of Taliban personnel were killed or wounded, but provided no details on the exact number of casualties or the extent of the damage.

The Taliban have not yet issued an official response to these claims, and no independent information has been released regarding the extent of the damage or possible casualties resulting from the attack.
