Summary

According to informed sources, internal intelligence reports of the Taliban have raised concerns over the security situation in Takhar province and have mentioned the possibility of losing control over some areas of the province.

Sources say these concerns have increased following a rise in clashes in Badakhshan and the expansion of activities by armed groups opposed to the Taliban in northeastern Afghanistan.

According to reports, the Taliban-appointed governor of Takhar has recently visited the districts of Warsaj, Farkhar, Ishkamish, and Chal to assess the security situation and address concerns over the possible spread of instability.

Sources further add that these visits were mainly conducted in areas considered security-sensitive and where there is potential for resistance activity.

The Taliban have not yet issued an official statement regarding these reports or claims about the possible fall of Takhar. However, increased security movements and internal concerns within the Taliban are being viewed as signs of a worsening and increasingly sensitive security situation in Afghanistan’s northeastern region.
