As tensions and clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan intensify along the Durand Line, the Taliban have initiated a recruitment drive for their military in the districts of Kunar province situated near the border.
Waheedullah Mohammadi, spokesperson for the Taliban’s 201st Khalid bin Walid Corps, stated that this recruitment process is currently underway across six border districts in Kunar. According to him, the registration and recruitment of 160 individuals from the Nari, Dangam, Shaltan, and Marawara districts have been completed so far, with their documentation forwarded to the Taliban's General Recruitment Command for final administrative processing.
Mohammadi added that the program is being carried out under the supervision of Dinar Khan Siddiq Omar, the Taliban’s head of recruitment in Kunar, and Firoz Khan Siraj, deputy for tribal affairs of the 1st Border Brigade of the 201st Khalid bin Walid Corps.
The Taliban have not released further details regarding the total number of required recruits, eligibility criteria, or the potential duties of the newly enlisted personnel.
This drive comes amidst several border skirmishes between Taliban and Pakistani forces along the Durand Line in recent months. The Taliban have yet to clarify whether the new recruits will be deployed to reinforce border outposts or assigned to other security roles.
