Following the killing of two men in the Injil district of Herat province, the Taliban transferred their bodies in a military vehicle to the city of Herat and publicly displayed them. Taliban officials stated that the individuals were killed during an “armed robbery” in an exchange of fire with their security forces.
According to reports, on Thursday, 14 Jowza, Taliban armed forces transported the bodies of the two men from Injil district to Herat city in the trunk of a Ranger vehicle. Taliban authorities described them as “armed thieves” and said they were killed during a confrontation with security forces while allegedly engaged in criminal activity.
The Taliban have so far not disclosed the identities of the deceased, and no further details have been provided regarding the circumstances of the incident.
Photos and videos circulated from the scene show the bloodied bodies of the two men placed in the back of a military vehicle and being moved through the city. Some residents of Herat have stated that witnessing such scenes has caused concern and created a sense of fear among the public.
The Taliban police command in Herat has also released a video of the incident, showing the transport of the bodies in a military vehicle. The authorities reiterated that the deceased were accused of armed robbery and were killed during an exchange of fire in Injil district.
This is not the first time the Taliban have publicly displayed the bodies of individuals killed in clashes with their forces. Similar incidents have previously been reported in Herat and several other provinces.
The Taliban maintain that such measures serve as a deterrent and help reduce crime. However, critics have condemned the practice, arguing that it violates human dignity and fundamental human rights principles.
Meanwhile, statistics released by the Taliban police command in Herat indicate an increase in arrests related to theft in the province. According to official press releases, 882 individuals were arrested in Herat over the past six months on charges of theft.
The rise in theft-related incidents and arrests in Herat comes amid ongoing concerns about the security situation and criminal activity in the province.
