Japanese Football Legend Kazuyoshi Miura Scores First Goal in Nearly Four Years
Kazuyoshi Miura, the Japanese football legend known as "King Kazu," has scored in an official match for the first time in nearly four years, at the age of 59. He netted his side's fifth goal in the 52nd minute during Fukushima United's resounding 7–0 victory over Iwaki Furukawa in the Emperor's Cup.
Miura pushed forward into the penalty area and converted a cutback pass from a teammate with a first-time finish. The goal was met with enthusiastic celebrations from Fukushima United players and coaching staff alike. Three minutes after scoring, he was substituted off.
This marks Miura’s first official goal since November 2022, when he scored against FC Osaka while playing for Suzuka Point Getters (now operating as Atletico Suzuka).
The former Japan international has extended his loan deal with Fukushima United through June 2027, preparing for the 42nd professional season of his career. He joined the club on loan from Yokohama FC in December and has made six appearances in the shortened 2026 season so far.
As the J.League shifts its season calendar from a spring–autumn format to an autumn–spring schedule, Miura is set to enter his sixth decade of life while continuing to play professionally, adding yet another chapter to one of the longest and most enduring careers in world football history.
