Summary

Authorities in Iran’s Taybad district say that in recent weeks, the movement of freight trucks at the Dogharoun–Islam Qala border crossing between Iran and Afghanistan has increased by 100 percent.

According to the Iranian news agency IRNA, Hossein Jamshidi, the governor of Taybad, said that an average of around 1,700 freight trucks now cross the Dogharoun–Islam Qala route each day.

Jamshidi said the long lines of freight trucks on roads leading to Dogharoun are an indication of growing trade relations between Iran and Afghanistan and an increase in the movement of goods between the two countries.

The Dogharoun–Islam Qala crossing is one of the main commercial and transit border crossings between Iran and Afghanistan, with a significant share of trade between the two countries conducted through this route.
