U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that if the Iranian government carries out its alleged threats to assassinate or take action against him, 1,000 U.S. missiles are already targeted and prepared for launch toward Iran. He added that, should such an attack occur, thousands more missiles would be launched immediately afterward against designated targets.
Trump also said that the necessary orders had already been issued and that the U.S. military would remain on full alert for a one-year period, which could be extended if necessary. According to him, American forces are “ready, willing, and able” to carry out large-scale operations against targets in Iran if required.
The remarks come amid recent reports by some U.S. and Israeli officials alleging that the Islamic Republic of Iran has developed a new plan to assassinate the U.S. president. The Wall Street Journal has also reported that Israel shared new intelligence with the United States which, according to the newspaper, indicates fresh Iranian planning to target Trump. These reports emerged alongside heightened military tensions between the two sides and following recent retaliatory strikes in the region, particularly around the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump had previously referred to alleged Iranian threats during a NATO summit in Turkey, stating that his name was at the top of the Islamic Republic’s assassination target list. His comments have been made in the context of his administration’s “maximum pressure” policy toward Iran. U.S. officials have also emphasized that any action against senior American officials would be met with a decisive response.
