During the trophy presentation ceremony for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino were met with boos and audible jeers from sections of the crowd as they entered the field at New York–New Jersey Stadium.
Reuters reported that, before the ceremony began, Gianni Infantino had announced that Donald Trump would present the World Cup trophy to the winning team. The arrangement had been included in the official ceremony program in advance.
In the tournament’s final, Spain defeated Argentina 1–0 to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup, lifting the trophy at the conclusion of the match.
As the official medal and trophy presentation got underway, the atmosphere inside the stadium became calmer and the crowd’s protests subsided. Trump and Infantino presented medals to the players and coaching staff of both teams before jointly handing the World Cup trophy to Spain’s captain.
