Summary

Tajuddin Oyewale, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Representative in Afghanistan, has announced the opening of an oxygen production plant at Mirwais Hospital in Kandahar province.

Oyewale wrote on his X account on Monday, 22 Saratan, that the facility was inaugurated during his recent visit to Kandahar, alongside Sanjay Wijesekera, UNICEF’s Regional Director for South Asia.

He added that the plant will provide the medical oxygen needed for the care of newborns, children, mothers, and patients in emergency departments, while improving the hospital’s capacity to deliver healthcare services.

This comes as Afghanistan continues to face significant challenges in its healthcare sector.

A shortage of medical facilities, equipment, medicines, and qualified healthcare professionals particularly in remote areas has limited people’s access to quality health services.
