Summary

Fresh reports have emerged regarding the killing of Zain-ul-Islam, a farmer residing in the Ashtowi village of central Parun district, Nuristan province.

According to the received information, it is alleged that the person involved in this incident is named Mahmood, a resident of Kandahar province, and is said to be a high-ranking member of the Taliban’s Ministry of Interior. Sources state that details of the incident, the weapon permit card, and the suspect’s appearance should also be shown to the media.

Furthermore, some sources claim that this was an intentional murder, and after the suspect was arrested by local people, he was handed over to the Taliban’s Third Security District. According to these sources, efforts are underway to transfer him from Nuristan to Kabul.

A tribal elder stated that the people of Nuristan are demanding the implementation of Sharia law and a public trial in this case. According to him, the governor of Nuristan, the deputy governor, and other senior officials are absent from the province due to leave and have not yet returned to their duties, while only the provincial police chief visited the bereaved family to offer condolences.

The elder also claimed that, under pressure from Kabul, a misleading statement was issued by the Nuristan provincial authorities, and he emphasized that the incident was not a firing accident but a deliberate act of murder.

At the same time, he called on social media users to avoid fueling ethnic and regional tensions, stating: “Kandahar, Nuristan, and Badakhshan are all one Afghanistan.” He stressed that the alleged perpetrator does not represent any specific ethnic group and that the main focus should be on ensuring justice.
