Local sources in Samangan have told media outlets that a man was killed by unidentified armed individuals while performing the evening prayer in the center of the province.
A local source said the victim, identified as Haji Navi, was shot and killed on Monday night (June 1) in the vicinity of the Grand Kandal Mosque in Aybak City.
According to the source, Haji Nabi was attacked by unknown gunmen while offering the evening prayer. He was transferred to the Samangan Provincial Hospital but later died from his injuries.
Hashmatullah Rahmani, spokesperson for the Taliban’s police command in Samangan Province, has confirmed the incident.
He said that an investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrators, but the motive behind the killing remains unclear.
According to local sources, Haji Nabi was a tribal elder and a shopkeeper.
Mysterious killings have reportedly increased across Afghanistan in recent years. These incidents are often attributed to “unidentified armed individuals.”
Only in a limited number of cases have the Taliban announced the identification of suspects or determined the motives behind such killings.
In most cases, the perpetrators remain unknown, and residents have complained about what they describe as inadequate efforts by the Taliban to investigate and prevent such crimes.
